Frequently asked questions
What does therapy look like for my preschool-age child?
We engage young children through play. Language routines and activities are centered on preferred play activities. While your child looks like they are playing, therapy activities are intentional. We also work closely with the family to provide them with strategies that can facilitate carryover of goals in the home.
What does therapy look like for my school-age child?
It depends! Some kids need movement and play, and others do well sitting in a more structured format. We take this into account and respect your child’s need for movement.
Can I sit and observe the therapy session?
Of course! We welcome and encourage parents to observe the therapy session. Speech therapy requires a team approach meaning that you are always an active participant in your child’s plan of care. Prefer to sit out? That’s fine too! The last 5 minutes of our therapy sessions are dedicated to coaching you so that you can continue to support your child’s goals in the home.
Will insurance cover my child’s therapy session?
Most plans do provide medical coverage for speech and language therapy. If you are unsure of your benefits including coverage, deductible, or copay, we are happy to look into coverage for you. We are currently in-network with Cigna, Blue Shield, Anthem, and United Healthcare PPO plans as well as Kaiser.
Can I pay out of pocket?
Yes! If you don’t have insurance or prefer to pay privately, this is always an option.
How much is speech therapy?
If you have insurance, you will only be responsible for a copay (and deductible if you have one). Please call our office so that we can look into your coverage and out of pocket costs.
Private pay or no insurance costs for a comprehensive evaluation including a written report and plan of care is $250. Therapy sessions are $120/clinical hour and $60/clinical half-hour.
How long are your sessions?
Our clinical hour is 50 minutes in duration and our clinical half-hour is 25 minutes in duration. Session duration may vary based on your funding or referral source. Please contact us for details regarding your specific situation.
Do you take precautions during cold and flu season?
Yes! We take precautions year-round! All toys and surfaces are sanitized after every session and telehealth sessions are encouraged and available if your child is sick
Are you still wearing masks?
It depends on your preference! We are unmasked during therapy sessions but if you would like your child’s clinician to wear a mask, we are happy to accommodate your request.
Are you accepting new clients?
Yes! Please call our office at (562) 284-9632 to check on availability
